Music Cadential and Phrase Deviations

Music Cadential and Phrase Deviations

As part of my research "Haydn Project," I present today this article which I intend to shed some light on the topic of Cadential and phrase deviations in musical analysis, certainly, an article to read carefully and thoroughly as is one of the Blog.

A common mistake in the approach of Classical Sonatas from composers like Mozart or Haydn is to be deceived by the impression of symmetry in their form, but underlying this veil of clear-shaped themes we encounter different phrase deviations such as interpolations, extensions, and compressions.

The aim of this article is to classify the different resources available in the Classical Sonata form, giving an insight into the harmonic cadential points and the different deviations we may find, especially in Haydn Sonatas.
